Artsy fartsy

Trying too hard to be artistic; an overly strong interest in appearing to be aesthetically aware.

From a lyrical marriage of the words "art" (creative or imaginative activity such as painting or poetry) and "fart" (expelling gas). The implication is that the art (or person) in question is no more than a glorified fart.

I've never really considered my photos as art. Today I took a stroll nearby my flat and tried to take some artistic photos. Is this art or just merely a glorified fart?

Rumbling thunder at night: should I sleep or should I run outside?

Only a few thunderstorms have passed Turku this year since I've been eager to try out some lightning photography. Last night there was a thunder storm that reigned for two hours, but the frequency of lightning strikes was not ideal for photography so I decided to close my eyes and go back to sleep.

A month back there was a great storm amply with lightnings so I decided to try out lightning photography for the first time. I hadn't read anything about shooting lightnings so I pretty much had to try out which settings would work.

Long shutter speeds are probably a good idea when shooting lightnings but I didn't have a tripod so I tried another solution. I selected a field of the sky and focused on infinity and kept the shutter going with one second of exposure for minutes at a time. I also took a video and picked the frames with lightnings, but the quality was farm from actual images(the last pic and video). Most of the pictures showed no lightnings, there where quite a few slight misses and a couple of successful ones. From total of over 400 photographs, these were somewhat successful.

Loud noises from the bushes

I've been floundering in the bushes recently and searching for some bush crickets with good results. The funny thing about crickets is that you can actually hear them from 100 meters away, but they have an insanely good camouflage so it's sometimes hard to see them even when they are right in front of you.
There has been some showers here in the south-western Finland and plenty of droplets to shoot at. Here are some pics from this week, and one droplet from the archives (the first picture).

I think posting here is great fun.

Hello world!

Long have I had it in my mind to start a photoblog, and finally i feel up to it. I've been shooting for two years now on a weekly basis and after getting a proper camera few months back the enthusiasm to photography has been growing steadily. My goal is to update and post every weekend and upload some photos I've taken. I think I'll share something from the archives as well from time to time.

Another reason to start a blog is to have an outlet for my constant pondering about EVERYTHING.
No clear theme in my blog is to be awaited but I am a sport, music, nature and science enthuisast so those things will propably be recurrent themes.

I hope this will be a fruitful journey.
